Organisation: Caritas Switzerland and Caritas Luxembourg are non-governmental aid agencies and members of Caritas Internationalis. 
Caritas works worldwide and adheres to international humanitarian principles (NGO code of conduct). 
Caritas Switzerland and Caritas Luxembourg act in the frame of a MoU as a consortium in the Eastern Africa and the Horn of Africa. 
They operate a joint Liaison Office in Nairobi, have Country Offices in Somaliland (Hargeisa) and South Sudan (Torit) and a Representative in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa).
 
Position: WASH Engineer
 
Reporting to: Humanitarian Delegate
 
Duration: 18 months
 
Location: Marsabit town, Marsabit County, Kenya
 
Key tasks & responsibilities
 
The WASH Engineer is responsible for the overall success of the Drought Recovery Project in Marsabit and ensures it is completed in adherence to the set quality standards, within budget and in time. 
The position will serve as accompaniment to Caritas Switzerland’s partner Caritas Marsabit. 
The WASH Engineer will
  • Assist Caritas Marsabit in all technical aspects of the project. These include but are not limited to the preparation of design drawings, bills of quantities and tender documents.
  • Assist Caritas Marsabit in assessing and approving all plans and designs.
  • Together with Caritas Marsabit, supervise the implementation of all water and sanitation activities at all stages of the project to ensure quality control (materials and workmanship) and the effective use of resources.
  • Accompany Caritas Marsabit at field visits.
  • Document and report extensively on all technical components.
Essential requirements & qualifications
 
National applicants are expected to have the following qualifications, experiences and abilities:
  • University degree in Civil Engineering or Water Engineering with at least 5 years professional work experience with a non-governmental organisation, including fieldwork experience preferably in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands or a
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering or Water Engineering with a minimum of 7 years proven experience in working in either relief or development with a non-governmental organisation.
  • Experience in needs assessments and surveys.
  • Good understanding of SPHERE and other international standards.
  • Knowledge on soft components of WASH including KAP surveys and hygiene education methodologies.
  • Strong analytical capacity – working and thinking on an academic level.
  • Former working in project partnerships is an advantage.
  • Flexibility, good interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and with sensitivity to cultural values.
  • Willingness to work extensively in remote areas.
  • Motivated and committed as well as being able to efficiently communicate and fit into a working team.
The knowledge of Kiswahili is mandatory, local language skills are highly desirable.

Liverpool VCT, Care & Treatment (LVCT) is an established Kenyan NGO that utilizes research to inform policy reform advocacy and strengthen HIV service delivery.  
We optimize our impact on the HIV/AIDS response by building capacity of partners and pay special attention to vulnerable groups and populations with special needs. LVCT’s focus is on the scale-up of quality-assured HIV counseling, testing and care services.

We have a vacancy for the following positions:
 
Position: Research Officer

Reporting To: Research Manager
 
Location: LVCT HQ (Nairobi)
 
The position requires an experienced researcher to lead an operational research project that aims to identify the policy and practice requirements for quality post intimate partner violence (IPV) screening support in HIV programs. 
With technical support from the Principal Investigators, it will be responsible for the design, undertaking, data analysis, management and dissemination of a quality study.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the study protocols
  • Develop implementation and dissemination plans and ensure their utilisation
  • Develop the IPV screening and study tools and undertake the study ensuring compliance with requirements for research ethics and scientific quality
  • Ensure integration with and provide input and feedback to other LVCT programmes
  • Collect, analyse and document data in appropriate formats for diverse audiences
Minimum requirements
  • A Master’s degree in Social Science, Gender or a relevant field from a recognised university.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a lead researcher, a gender focus is an added advantage
  • Experience in analysis of qualitative and quantitative data using the appropriate software
  • Proven research writing ability
